Is Crystal Castle worth it?

Byron Bay – Australia

Are you a crystal fan or are you just looking for a unique experience out of Byron Bay? Have you heard about Crystal Castle, but are asking the question “is Crystal Castle worth it?”. This post will tell you the ins and outs of Crystal Castle, so that you can decide if it is the right place for you!

First of all, Crystal Castle is located around 20 minutes out of Byron Bay by car. If you do not have a car, there are tour operators who offer a shuttle service to and from Byron Bay (check them out here). As of February 2023, the entrance price is $49 for an adult and $35 for children. Check out their website for the most up to date information and also about the option to book in advance. It could be considered quite an expensive day out, however, I will tell you more information about what is inside and what you can expect and then at the end of this post, I will give you my opinion on whether Crystal Castle is worth it.

This blog post is all about “Is Crystal Castle Worth It?”.

Crystal castle is home to some of the biggest and most beautiful crystals in the world as well as an abundance of plants and flowers. When entering the park, you will be given a guide, as part of the entrance fee, which has information about all the different areas of the gardens as well as general information about crystals and how to use them.

Crystal Castle Cafe

The Cafe:

There are many areas of the garden, so make sure you allow yourself at least a couple of hours to fully explore everything and maybe also try one of the meditations which they have on offer (which is also included in the entrance ticket). If you were staying for the whole day, there is also a café on site, which looked good (although I didn’t buy anything).

Crystal Castle Geodes

Tallest Geodes In The World:

Perhaps Crystal Castle’s main attraction is just below their café, it is their world’s tallest crystal geodes which are five and a half metres tall. These geodes originated from Uruguay and are now in this park! The view behind these crystals into the hinterland is also fantastic, making these crystals a superb photo opportunity.

Crystal Castle is it worth it?

The Dragon Egg:

Another amazing thing to see while visiting Crystal Castle is the 120 million year old geode called the dragon egg. This dragon egg is an amethyst, and you are even allowed to sit in it! Now tell me, how often do you get the chance to sit in a crystal?

Crystal-Castle-Wings-To-Eternity

Wings To Eternity:

If you are into angels, then I would recommend finding these amethyst wings. They have 3 different sizes so even the little visitors could have a picture.

Crystal-Castle-Enchanted-Cave

The Enchanted Cave:

The Crystal Castle is also home to the largest amethyst cave which they have called the enchanted cave. It is the largest amethyst cave that has been discovered in the world! It is huge and truly incredible to peer inside it.

Crystal-Castle-Treasure-Chest-Geode

The Treasure Chest Geode:

Another one of my favourites is the giant geode which has been opened like a treasure chest. You can peer inside and see all the crystals glimmering in the light. It is extraordinary.

Other areas in Crystal Castle:

Crystal-Castle-World-Peace-Stupa

The Kalachakra World Peace Stupa:

The Crystal Castle is not only home to hundreds of crystals scattered around the gardens, but there are also other attractions to see while visiting. It is a very spiritual place and home to the Kalachakra World Peace Stupa. There are only seven of these in the whole world, but this is the only one in the Southern Hemisphere.  The aim of this stupa is to restore balance to the Earth especially after conflict, environmental damage and war.

To visit the stupa properly, it is recommended that you walk around the stupa in a clockwise direction three times while spinning the prayer wheels.

Crystal-Castle-Peace-Dome

The Peace Dome:

In the middle of the gardens, there is a Peace Dome. In here, at certain times of the day, they offer crystal singing bowl meditations and crystal intention meditations. I personally went to both of these sessions and enjoyed them. They are fairly short, but interesting. Check their website for times that they host these free meditations.

Crystal-Castle-Damanhur-Spiral

The Spiral:

Near the Peace Dome, there is also a Damanhur Spiral. This spiral has an energy link to a set of stone spirals in Northern Italy (in the Sacred Woods Temple of Damanhur). One person at a time can walk the spiral to the crystal chair in the middle where you can sit. You must then walk the spiral back and only then, can someone else enter the spiral.

Crystal-Castle-Buddha

The Blessing Buddha:

As I have already mentioned, there are many walks around the gardens. The Buddha walk is hard to beat. You pass many different statues including Ganesh, Lakshmi, Avalokiteshvara and the main highlight is the blessing Buddha. This Buddha is grandly sitting upon a fish pond with crystals all around him. It is marvelous to see and a truly peaceful place to sit and watch the world go by or even meditate.

Crystal-Castle-Bamboo-Alley

The Bamboo Alley:

Located near the Buddha and part of the Buddha walk, there is also a bamboo alley. Walk through this bamboo corridor and look above at how tall these bamboos are! It is like stepping into another world. Perfect for when visiting on a hot day, as it gives you that much needed shade.

Crystal-Castle-Reflexology-Walk

The Reflexology Walk:

Another interesting thing to do while at Crystal Castle is the reflexology walk. Take your shoes off, and walk barefooted on these crystals. It may not be the most comfortable experience but it sure puts pressure on different parts of your feet and you will be able to feel the benefit!

The Rainforest Walks:

There is also a rainforest section, where you can take a walk and if you are lucky, see some wildlife. Connected to the rainforest walk, is also a bushtucker section, however, in my opinion this section lacked information, so it just felt like I was walking through a normal section of rainforest. However, it is still nice and cool on a hot day!

My Conclusion:

If you are looking for a unique way to spend your day or afternoon in a quiet and relaxed space, wanting to learn more about crystals or just see these impressive geodes, I would recommend a trip to the Crystal Castle. Although the price is (in my opinion)  high and maybe overpriced, it is a true experience. I really enjoyed my day here, and felt that I had seen a lot that I couldn’t find “just anywhere”. It will be one of those days which you remember you did something interesting and quirky – so it wouldn’t be easy to forget!

My recommendation:

I would recommend setting aside at least a couple of hours, to truly get your money’s worth, however, it is a lovely place to also just sit and relax. Would I come back again? With the elevated price, I don’t think it is necessary to return, I think it is more for the experience. However, maybe in a couple of years, if I were to return to Byron Bay, I would be interested in returning to see if there had been new features added, as by walking around, it seems that they have been adding new parts to the gardens over the years. Overall, it was a fantastic day!

love,
